Jennifer Lawrence has scored a $20 million payday for Sony’s “Passengers” opposite Chris Pratt, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
And while Lawrence’s role is “somewhat secondary” to Pratt’s, THR notes that his deal nabbed him $10 million upfront with the possibility for more money, if Universal’s “Jurassic World” performs well at the box office.
It seems that the Sony hack proved to be a blessing in disguise for Lawrence after it was revealed that she and co-star Amy Adams were paid less than their male co-stars in “American Hustle.” Armed with that information, the star’s agents were said to have stood firm on her $20 million fee.
THR also notes that Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are each asking for $20 million to reprise their roles in the third installment of the “21 Jump Street” series, while Lawrence is getting the same payday on a film that’s not part of a franchise.
The $20 million paycheck for “Passengers” would cement Lawrence among the ranks of stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie, whom the publication recently claimed regularly bring home $20 million-plus salaries.
Again, $20 million-plus salaries that are usually only attached to a franchise. While Downey earned $50 million for “The Avengers,” an estimated $75 million for “Iron Man 3” and is rumored to score $40 million plus backend participation for “Captain America 3,” THR explains he didn’t receive salaries anywhere close to these numbers for a movie like “The Judge.”
Meanwhile, Lawrence, 24, is said to have previously earned $500,000 for the first “Hunger Games” movie, later scoring a $10 million salary for “Catching Fire,” after the first film brought in more than $680 million at the box office.
