Jennifer Lawrence already has three Academy Awards nominations and one best actress Oscar win under her belt, but it doesn’t appear as if the Hollywood A-lister will be slowing down her awards season streak anytime soon.
The LA Times reconfirmed Tuesday that Lawrence, 23, has signed on to star in director David O. Russell’s upcoming film, “Joy.” According to reports, the “Hunger Games” franchise lead is set to portray the true-story film’s lead, Joy Mangano, a struggling Long Island mother whose “Miracle Mop” invention turned her into a shopping-network TV star.
While the film has yet to begin production, “Joy” is already speculated to be a potential player in the 2016 Academy Awards, with its pivotal December 25, 2015, release date. “A holiday release indicated the studios see the film as an award-seasons contender,” reads the report.
So will Jennifer Lawrence score her fourth Oscar nomination with Russell’s “Joy”? That would be remarkable for someone so young. While the future is unclear, Lawrence’s chances of scoring recognition from the Academy is likely, considering her career track record with Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook“ and most recently his crime/drama blockbuster “American Hustle.” “The timing indicates that ‘Joy’ is hoping to follow suite,” reported The Guardian.
Lawrence last discussed the upcoming Russell piece while promoting “X-Men: Days of Future Past” on “Live! with Kelly And Michael” last month. “He recently texted me at, I think, 4 in the morning and was like, ‘I think I wanna make a movie about the woman who invited the joy mop. You wanna do it?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah!’” Lawrence said about her decision to sign on to the film. “I could just image David just looking at somebody mopping and being like, ‘Yeah. That’s my next screenplay,’” Lawrence jokingly added.
Lawrence is reprising her role of Katniss Everdeen in the final two installments of the “Hunger Games” franchise, with “Mockingjay—Part 1” due in theaters November 2014, and “Mockingjay—Part 2” following with a November 2015 release. Lawrence’s drama piece “Serena,” co-starring Bradley Cooper, is also scheduled for a 2014 debut.
