She’s one of the hardest-working women in showbiz, and Jennifer Lawrence needs a vacation according to David O. Russell.

The “American Hustle” director told the New York Daily News he’s concerned that Lawrence’s workload for “The Hunger Games” franchise is too much.

Russell noted, “I personally think they should give her a bit of breathing room over there because they’re printing money.”

“I’ll tell you what it is about that girl- talk about 12 years of slavery, that’s what the franchise is… I’m going to get in so much trouble for saying that.”

Cue the controversy!

Later, David said ‘I’m sorry’:

He made some pretty insensitive comments regarding Jennifer Lawrence’s “Hunger Games” workload, comparing it to “slavery,” and director David O. Russell has issued an apology.

The “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook” mastermind told E! News that he regrets likening J. Law’s career to “12 Years a Slave.”

Russell repented, “Clearly, I used a stupid analogy in a poor attempt at humor. I realized it the minute I said it and I’m truly sorry.”

Previously, David snarked, “I personally think they should give her a bit of breathing room over there because they’re printing money. But she’s a very alive person. I’ll tell you what it is about that girl – talk about 12 years of slavery, that’s what the franchise is. I’m going to get in so much trouble for saying that, but being in The Hunger Games, they just keep her on a hamster wheel.”
