The Box Office reports have been updated, and everyone’s expectations for the highly anticipated “Catching Fire” have been met and exceeded. However, the question was not whether the movie would make the big buck, but just how much it would rake in.

The futuristic sci-fi flick, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth set a strong November opening record, earning $161.1 million.

“Catching Fire” blew away the record held by “Twilight: New Moon,” and surpassed the “Dark Knight” movies by Christopher Nolan, and so far, has made as much money in three days as “Thor: The Dark World” has in three weeks.

The book-based adventure’s earnings place it among the top five openings of all time, coming in behind “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.” We’ll just have to wait and see how the movie stacks up in the long run!
